What is Building Biology and how does it effect you in an environment?
Building Biology originated in Germany after World War II. Helmet Ziehe founded in 1987 the International of Building Biology and Ecology in the United States. Building Biology is the study of a built environment and what it’s impact is on human health. Building Biology identifies and catalogs the effects of different VOC’s within an environment. VOC’s are volatile organic compounds that out gas from certain home products and furnishings and can adversely affect an occupants health. Building biology also looks at the problems of high out put EMF’s areas within a space as well as Electromagnetic Radiation outside of a building that can be present with certain electrical systems, just to name a few. The principles of Building Biology is based in the premise that the homes and buildings we work in should be both healthy for us as occupants and sound for the surrounding environment.
The three groups of most sensitive individuals that reap the greatest benefits of building biology findings of a space are: Infants, the elderly, and the immuno-compromised. Some people become environmentally hypersensitive over time, and although conventional medicine suggests that the problems may be psychological, there is growing acceptance that there is environmental causes for some whom seem to have developed over time multiple chemical sensitivity issues.
